Hello,
I am SSG Ho Yong Lee, U.S. Army recruiter currently stationed in Fairfax, Virginia.
This page was created to organize U.S. Army MOS (Military Occupational Specialty) jobs and Army career information in one place for easier understanding. I personally researched and compiled these resources to help applicants better understand different Army career paths and opportunities.
The page covers a wide range of Army MOS fields, including medical, IT, intelligence, administration, maintenance, legal, aviation, and more. It was designed to help applicants explore realistic career options and better understand the structure of Army jobs.
I continue updating this page with frequently asked questions, MOS information, and practical Army career guidance based on real applicant consultations.
The U.S. Army offers a wide variety of career fields,ย
including combat, medical, IT, administration, maintenance, intelligence, legal, aviation, logistics, and more.
Not everyone in the Army does the same job.ย
The MOS (job) options available to each applicant may vary depending on factors such asย
ASVAB scores, medical qualifications, immigration status, security clearance eligibility, and current job availability.
The official GoArmy website also categorizes Army jobs into multiple career fieldsย
and states that there are over 200 enlisted career opportunities available.

MOS stands for Military Occupational Specialty.
It refers to the specific job or career field a Soldier performs in the U.S. Army.
If an applicant meets the qualifications and the position is available,ย
the U.S. Army allows applicants to review and select their MOS during the enlistment process.
In other words, joining the Army is not simply โjoining the military.โ
It can also be an opportunity to choose a career fieldย
that aligns with personal interests and future career goals.
The best MOS can vary depending on your interests and long-term goals.

MOS selection is not based only on personal preference.
Several factors are reviewed together, including:
ASVAB scores
Medical qualifications
Citizenship or permanent resident status
Security clearance eligibility
Driverโs license status
Education history
Criminal or medical history
Current MOS availability
Because of this, speaking with a recruiter about your individual situation is usually the best way to understand which MOS options may currently be available to you.
Choosing an Army MOS is not usually confirmed during the first conversation.
It is normally determined after several steps in the enlistment process.
A general process may look like this:
Consultation โ ASVAB / PiCAT โ MEPS Physical Exam โ Qualification Review โ MOS / Job Option Review โ Contract Signing
Even if an applicant has a specific MOS in mind, the final job options may depend on several factors, including:
ASVAB Line Scores
MEPS physical exam results
Citizenship or Green Card status
Security Clearance eligibility
Active Duty or Army Reserve option
Current job availability
Current Army business rules
For this reason, the question is not only, โWhat MOS do I want?โ
A better question is:
โBased on my current qualifications, what MOS options are actually available to me?โ
Army Reserve MOS options may be limited based on vacancies at Reserve units near your location.
ย If your desired MOS is a top priority, it may be worth comparing Active Duty options as well.
Green Card holders may be eligible to join the U.S. Army and may qualify for many different MOS options.
However, not every MOS is available to every applicant.
Some MOS options may require U.S. citizenship and/or eligibility for a Security Clearance. This is especially important for certain fields such as intelligence, cyber, some signal/communication jobs, special operations, and certain military police-related positions.
Green Card holders may still have many practical MOS options in areas such as:
Administration
Supply and logistics
Maintenance
Transportation
Food service
Engineering
Some medical support fields
Other technical or support roles
Actual job availability depends on the applicantโs ASVAB scores, physical qualifications, immigration status, current Army requirements, and available job options at the time of processing.
When choosing an MOS, applicants should consider more than just the job title.
Some MOS options may require longer training, special qualifications, or a longer service commitment. Some MOS options may also offer enlistment bonuses depending on current Army needs.
However, MOS contract length and bonus availability are not fixed forever.
They may vary depending on:
Active Duty or Army Reserve
Current job availability
Training length
Army business rules
Enlistment timing
Applicant qualifications
Current incentive programs
Because of this, online MOS lists or contract-length charts should only be used as general references.
The most accurate information should be confirmed during the enlistment process based on current available options.
You can also review the full MOS list through the official GoArmy Job Search page.
However, actual MOS availability may vary depending on your individual qualifications and current job availability.
If you have a specific MOS in mind, it is best to review your situation through a consultation to confirm what options may be available based on current standards.
The U.S. Army has a wide range of career fields, and the official GoArmy website provides a public job search tool.
You may use the official GoArmy job search page to explore different Army careers and learn about general job descriptions.
However, seeing a job listed online does not always mean that the MOS is currently available for every applicant.
Actual MOS selection depends on your ASVAB score, MEPS physical exam result, citizenship status, Security Clearance eligibility, Active Duty or Reserve option, and current job availability.
Not necessarily.
MOS availability depends on multiple factors, including your qualifications, ASVAB scores, and the current availability of positions.
Some MOS options are available to permanent residents.
However, certain positions may require U.S. citizenship and/or security clearance eligibility.
Generally, yes.
Higher ASVAB scores may increase the number of MOS opportunities available.
In some cases, yes.
MOS changes may depend on factors such as current Army needs, MOS availability, ASVAB scores, security clearance eligibility, rank, and contract status.
During reenlistment, Soldiers may have opportunities to reclassify into a different MOS if eligibility requirements and job availability are met.
Additionally, some special MOS programs (Packet MOS) may allow Soldiers to apply for a different career field during their current contract through a separate packet and selection process.
In other words, your first MOS is not always permanent.
Depending on qualifications and Army needs, there may be opportunities to move into a different career field during military service.
However, MOS changes are not automatically guaranteed, and approval may vary based on Army requirements and individual qualifications.
You may use them as a general reference, but I do not recommend making a final decision based only on information found online.
MOS contract length, bonuses, available options, and training seats may vary depending on several factors, such as:
Timing of contract
Active Duty or Reserve option
Current Army requirements
Current job availability
Applicant qualifications
Training seat availability
Because of this, if you have a specific MOS in mind, it is best to confirm whether that MOS is actually available under current standards through a consultation.
Online information can be helpful for general research, but final MOS availability and contract options should be verified based on your individual situation.
Only in a general sense.
Before taking the ASVAB or PiCAT, you can discuss your interests and career goals. However, your actual MOS options cannot be confirmed until your test scores and qualifications are reviewed.
Your ASVAB Line Scores play a major role in determining which MOS options you may qualify for.
No.
Contract length may vary depending on the MOS, training length, Active Duty or Reserve option, current Army rules, and available job options.
For this reason, MOS contract length should be confirmed during the official job selection and contract review process.
No.
Enlistment bonuses are not guaranteed for every MOS or every applicant.
Bonus availability may depend on the MOS, contract length, Active Duty or Reserve option, current Army needs, and the applicantโs qualifications.
Online MOS lists can be useful for general research, but they may not reflect current availability, current contract options, or current bonus information.
The best approach is to use online resources for basic research, then confirm your actual options through the official enlistment process.
Choosing an MOS is not simply about picking a job title.
It is important to realistically evaluate your qualifications, goals, and available opportunities.
If you have questions about:
U.S. Army enlistment
MOS options
ASVAB preparation
Active Duty vs Reserve
Green Card eligibility
I would be happy to help provide guidance.

Army MOS / Army Benefits / Enlistment Information for Korean Applicants
I currently serve at the Fairfax Recruiting Center in Virginia, where I assist applicants in the Northern Virginia area.
Because many parts of the U.S. Army enlistment process can be coordinated through online consultation, I also assist Korean applicants from other states across the United States, not only those living in Virginia.
Note: Actual MEPS processing and shipping procedures are generally handled based on the applicantโs residential area.
This page is for general informational purposes only. Army MOS availability, contract length, bonus eligibility, qualification requirements, and Security Clearance requirements may change based on current Army needs, applicant qualifications, and official processing results. Final MOS options must be confirmed through the official enlistment process.
